About the ELCA

Our Beliefs

At Ascension Lutheran Church, our faith is rooted in the good news of Jesus Christ. We are a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), a community of 2.7 million members across more than 8,300 congregations nationwide. We gather around God's word and sacraments, trusting in His grace and shaped by the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

We Are Church

We believe that God has made us new in Christ and calls us to live out that faith together. Through Jesus, we are reconciled to God and to one another, and it is this relationship that defines, shapes, and guides who we are as a community of faith. Even amid life's uncertainties, we live confidently and generously because of God's grace.

We Are Lutheran

As Lutherans, we center our lives on the gospel of Jesus Christ, crucified and risen for the sake of the world. Our Lutheran identity connects us not only to a rich tradition of faith, but to a wider, global Christian family. We believe in the power of God's word and the sacraments, Holy Baptism and Holy Communion, to create and sustain faith through the work of the Holy Spirit.

We Are Church Together

Through baptism, God joins us to Christ and to one another. That bond extends beyond our own walls to the ELCA, the Lutheran World Federation, and Christian communities around the world. We celebrate the diversity of backgrounds, cultures, and experiences within the body of Christ, and we welcome all people to fully participate in the life and work of the church.

We Are Church for the Sake of the World

The gospel does not stay inside the church. It sends us out. Freed by Christ from sin, death, and even ourselves, we are called to serve our neighbors with compassion, courage, and a hunger for justice. Through our daily callings and ministries, we strive to participate in God's reconciling work in our community and beyond.
